Dr. Anthony Zhang is a Lecturer in Second Language Learning at the Institute of Education, University of Reading. His research interests are second/foreign language vocabulary acquisition, listening and reading comprehension in a second/foreign language, technology-enhanced language learning, particularly through multimedia and multimodal approaches, and advanced quantitative methods in linguistics research. Dr. Zhang has published in leading international journals in the fields of Education and Linguistics, including Language Learning, Modern Language Journal, System, and Language Teaching Research. His recent research outputs explore a wide range of topics, such as the impact of input conditions and learner-related factors on multimedia-enhanced vocabulary learning; the role of text type and instructional methods in literature-based second language vocabulary acquisition; and the effects of repetition on vocabulary learning during explicit instruction, with particular attention to the moderating influences of listening proficiency and pre-existing vocabulary knowledge. Additionally, Dr. Zhang has actively involved in several large-scale funded research initiatives, notably acting as a co-investigator on the recent UKRI-ESRC funded Education Technology Programme: Digital Empowerment for Language Teaching (DELTEA).
